According to a recent article published in the Journal of Cleaner Production, “Mapping of water footprint research: A bibliometric analysis during 2006-2015” (Zang et al., 2017), the Saragossa’s University get among the 20 most productive institutions in the world in relation to the research in the field of the water footprint, occupying the 12th position.
This has been possible thanks to the research groups of the Economic’s and Business’s Faculty and others attached to the IA2, such as CREDENAT, who works on the projects:
• ECO2016-74940-P “Multiregional and dynamic models applied to economic growth, technological change and the environment” (IP: Julio Sánchez-Chóliz and Rosa Duarte)
• ECO2015-65582 “The integration of the international economy and its effects: agri-food production, natural resources, society and the environment (XIX-XX centuries)” (IP: Iñaki Iriarte and Vicente Pinilla).
The water footprint is an indicator of the environmental impacts of consumption and production patterns. The main contribution of this research is on the development of environmentally enhanced economic models that assess the impact of different technologies, rent levels, consumption patterns, international trade, on the water resources.
This has allowed them to study these impacts from a historical perspective as well as formulate stages of growth and technological change on the reduction of impacts.
