CREDENAT is participating in the European project Pathways to(wards) Carbon Neutrality for Climate, Environment, Health, and Socio-Economic Co-Benefits (PANTHEON). The project has a total budget of nearly two million euros and began its work last March, running until the end of February 2028. This international initiative brings together eleven entities from six countries. Coordinated by the University of Groningen (Netherlands), it includes partners from Poland (Uniwersytet Jagiellonski), Germany (Max Planck Institute for Chemistry), the United Kingdom (University College London), and China (Peking University, Tsinghua University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, and ENN Science and Technology Development Co.). The University of Valladolid also participates in the consortium.
Rosa Duarte (Principal Investigator at CREDENAT) and Cristina Sarasa lead the work package on socio-technological scenario modeling and the evaluation of the socio-economic and environmental impacts of decarbonization dynamics and energy transition processes in Europe and China. Over its four-year duration, PANTHEON will assess how various current or emerging technologies in key economic and energy sectors can be transformed into successful decarbonization pathways that are both socially and environmentally sustainable. To achieve this, the project will establish an innovative modeling framework aimed at reconciling the goals of improving energy efficiency and decarbonization across the supply chain, while addressing the socio-economic impacts and challenges (including health and employment) and incorporating the perceptions of stakeholders (such as public entities at regional or national levels and the business sector).
